The Heckler & Koch MP5 is a German submachine gun developed in the 1960s. Based on the modular design of the H&K G3 rifle, it has spawned over 100 variants, including semi-automatic, suppressed, and compact models. It is one of the world’s most widely used submachine guns, adopted by military and police forces in more than forty nations. Heckler & Koch attempted to replace it, introducing the UMP in 1999. However, the MP5 remained more popular due to its widespread adoption, user familiarity, and lower recoil from its signature roller-delayed action. The MP5 was originally developed for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge as part of a larger family of firearms.
