The M56 “Scorpion” was an American self-propelled tank destroyer developed for airborne forces. Manufactured by Cadillac from 1953 to 1959, it was an unarmored, airmobile vehicle armed with a 90 mm M54 gun. Its four-person crew was unprotected, with only a simple blast shield for defense. The tracked vehicle weighed 7.7 tonnes when combat-loaded and was powered by a 200-horsepower Continental gasoline engine. This allowed a top speed of 45 km/h and an operational range of 230 km. It carried 29 rounds for its main gun but lacked amphibious capabilities or NBC protection, with only its small blast shield being armored.
