The Mk 14 Enhanced Battle Rifle (EBR) is an American military designated marksman rifle based on a modernized, tactical chassis system for the select-fire M14 battle rifle. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, it was originally built for U.S. Special Operations Command units like the Navy SEALs and Delta Force. Development began in 2000 from a SEAL request for a more compact M14. An early prototype by Mike Rock and Jim Ribordy featured a collapsible stock and aluminum body but had excessive noise issues. A more favored version with a medium-heavy barrel was created by Smith Enterprise, Inc. in 2003, and this design ultimately became the basis for the Mk 14 Mod 0.
