The Sturmpanzer I Bison was a German self-propelled gun developed during World War II. Its creation was a response to the invasion of Poland, where towed heavy infantry guns struggled to keep pace with advancing tanks. The vehicle was a simple conversion, created by mounting a complete 15 cm sIG 33 gun, including its carriage and wheels, onto a turretless Panzer I tank chassis. A tall, open-topped fighting compartment made of thin armor was built around the gun, offering only minimal protection to the gunner and leaving the loaders completely exposed. The design had severe drawbacks, including an overloaded chassis prone to breakdowns, an extremely tall profile, and a complete lack of onboard ammunition storage.
