A police armored vehicle, also called a SWAT or tactical vehicle, is a non-military armored vehicle used by police units during high-risk incidents. Generally configured like military light utility vehicles or armored personnel carriers, they are designed to protect officers from gunfire. Key features include armor capable of stopping high-caliber rounds, ample space for carrying equipment, and seating for multiple officers.
Production methods vary, ranging from simple unarmored vans or trucks used for transport to more specialized vehicles. These can be demilitarized military surplus vehicles, purpose-built models based on commercial truck chassis like the Lenco BearCat, or less commonly, converted ambulances and armored cars.
