The M16 multiple gun motor carriage, or M16 half-track, was an American self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon built during World War II. It featured four .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns in a powerful M45 Quadmount. Based on the M3 half-track chassis, the M16 was produced from 1943 to 1944 and replaced the older M13 model. It earned the nickname “Meat Chopper” for its devastating effectiveness against low-flying aircraft and infantry, making it very popular with troops. As aircraft technology advanced, its anti-aircraft role diminished, and it was primarily used for ground support during the Korean War before being retired from U.S. service in 1958.
