The Škorpion vz. 61 is a Czechoslovak machine pistol developed in 1959 by Miroslav Rybář and produced by the Česká zbrojovka arms factory from 1963 to 1979. Initially carrying the working name “model 59,” the design was officially completed in 1961 as the Samopal Vz. 61, with the standard version using .32 ACP ammunition. It is a select-fire weapon that operates on a straight blowback mechanism and fires from a closed bolt. The low recoil of its cartridge allows for this simple, unlocked blowback operation, which does not require a delay mechanism and relies solely on the bolt’s inertia and the strength of the return springs.
